How to Help Your Dog Live a Longer and Healthy
It’s a little more difficult to estimate in dogs because their lifespans vary so much depending on their size. In general, the longer a dog lives, the lower its life expectancy. Large dogs live to be about 9 years old on average, whereas medium and tiny dogs live to be at least 12 years old. Toy dogs live the longest on average, reaching the age of 15 or more.
However, most experts seem to agree that dogs are living longer than they were 40 years ago, sometimes up to twice as long. Choosing the correct food for your dog based on his age, activity level, breed, and any health issues will help him maintain his best weight and health.
Exercise your dog on a regular basis
Every day, your dog requires at least some exercise. The majority of dogs have fenced yards or spend the most of their time indoors. While this protects them from a variety of threats, it reduces the amount of exercise your dog would get if he were patrolling the world alone.
The sort and amount of exercise your dog requires will vary depending on his age, overall health, and natural activity level for his breed, but dogs should get at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. It will help him stay slender, tone his muscles, and stimulate his brain.
Give them food puzzles
Speaking of minds, your dog’s gray matter needs to be kept busy as well. Dogs are bright animals who like attempting to solve issues. Food-filled toys that demand some thought or effort on the side of the dog to get the food out can help keep your dog young at heart, sharp, and entertained. And a bored dog is more likely to be destructive. Just remember to account for the extra calories from those treats when determining how much to feed him at dinnertime.
Brush His Teeth on a Regular Basis
Brush your dog’s teeth every day, or at least many times a week. There are many different types of dog toothbrushes available. Some snacks can also help keep your teeth clean. Your dog’s general health is aided by proper oral health.
Visit the veterinarian on a regular basis
Make sure to take your dog to the vet for regular exams. If your dog is healthy, you should only take him to the vet once a year. If your dog needs to be seen more frequently, your veterinarian can guide you. The sooner a health problem is identified, the easier it is to cure or at the very least manage and control it.
Provide him with love and attention
One of the most important things you can give your dog is your love, which is completely free. On your shoulder, your dog’s world rises and falls. Nothing makes him happier than spending a few minutes with him, massage his favorite spots and telling him how terrific of a dog he is. Giving your dog your entire attention on a daily basis and tell him how much you love him can help keep him at your side for as long as possible.
